I've been using fake tan for years and have tried almost every product on the market to varying degrees of success. I find that having a hint of colour on my face in the summer always helps boost my confidence, but only if it looks sun-kissed and natural. Anyone who has woken up to skin with a streaky orange hue after a home-tanning session will know that it is easy to over-do it.

Tan-Luxe The Face Self Tan Drops have become a must-have item in my make-up bag as they're so easy to use. You simply mix a few drops into your usual moisturiser or serum to gradually build a natural-looking tan on your face and neck — from my experience without streaks and no biscuity smell.

Usually priced at £39, the Light/Medium 30ml bottle is now available for £27 on Amazon as part of a limited-time Prime Day deal — a nice saving for those looking to test it out without fully committing. But to unlock this price, you do need to be a Prime member, so make sure you're signed up.

Many shoppers swear by Tan-Luxe for its customisable tan and anti-ageing formula. It includes skin-loving ingredient raspberry seed oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids and is great for dry or sensitive skin. It also contains aloe vera, which hydrates while you tan.

Tan-Luxe recommends using two drops for a subtle glow, four for sun-kissed, eight will turn you golden, and 12 will be bronzed. I go for two drops added to my moisturiser in the evening and then build up over a few days.

I like that is gives me subtle colour without having to wear heavy makeup in hot weather. A couple of tips: remember to add an SPF over the top as the drops don't contain any protection and don't forget to wash your hands after application to avoid any unwelcome streaks.

In addition to the drops for the face, Amazon shoppers can also buy the drops for the body too. These cost £29.49 for 100ml.

One buyer revealed they'd been a fan for three years, writing: "I put on a high sun protection when out in the sun then use this product in the evening mixed with a moisturiser. Result is a gradual tan which looks natural."

Another user explained how much they added: "I mix two drops into my night cream and wake up with subtle, believable colour — no smell, no mess."

However, not everyone was impressed. One person warned: "Be careful how many drops you put in. My first application and I looked like a Oompa Loompa!! But soon got it perfect and I use a brush for application with my moisturiser it saves getting any on the hands which can be a surprise with one very bronzed hand."

Still, there are cheaper alternatives worth considering if you're just looking to dip your toe into self-tanning, and they're also discounted during Prime Day.

The Bondi Sands Pure Self Tanning Drops (30ml, Light/Medium) is currently £10.66, reduced from £15.99. They’re also vegan and cruelty-free, with added hyaluronic acid for hydration. One shopper noted: “They give a lovely, even tan — I’ve switched from more expensive brands and haven’t looked back.” That said, some reviews mention it can take a couple of uses to build up noticeable colour.

Another budget-friendly option is the Garnier Ambre Solaire Natural Bronzer Face Drops (30ml), which are just £9.59 right now, reduced from £16.00. These drops also blend easily with your daily moisturiser and are enriched with coconut water. They’re a good pick for sensitive skin, though some users say they have a slightly stronger scent than pricier options.
