A professional cleaner has shared the ultimate stain removal method, capable of rescuing carpets from stains and restoring them to their former glory. Ann Russell, 60, has worked as a cleaner for more than 20 years and has become a TikTok star, sharing her wisdom to millions of followers.

The ex-housekeeper came to the rescue after one TikTok user found themselves in a dire carpet situation, asking for a solution to help remove raspberry stains.

Fortunately, Ann explained that removing stubborn raspberry - or any stains - from carpets is not as difficult as it may appear. However, you have to make sure you appease the stain before cleaning it, otherwise you risk making it worse.

How to clean carpet stains

Ann instructed to attack the stain first with the back of a kitchen knife and kitchen towel to help scrape up any excess residue.

Continue to scrap the stain until as much of the excess residue is removed. Use a cloth with cold water to wipe the stain into its middle.

This technique will help to avoid spreading the stain further across the carpet. Ann said: “Once you’ve done that, you want to get carpet shampoo.”

The pro cleaner recommended Dr Beckmann products, which come with a foam applicator. Specifically she recommended either Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover.

It can easily be identified by the wine glass on the front of the bottle. From there, follow the instructions on the bottle.

Ann said: “You will be amazed. The only trick with cleaning stuff like that, have lots of old towels that you can use to blot as you work.

“And don’t be tempted to scrub the carpet so much, because what you don’t want to end up with is a patch on the carpet where you’ve roughed up the pile, and the mark has gone but the texture is changed.”

The reason this product works well to remove stains is because it contains oxygen bleach, also known as sodium percarbonate. Sodium percarbonate is effective for stain removal due to its ability to release oxygen when dissolved in water, which breaks down organic compounds and lifts stains.

It's essentially a combination of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide, and the released oxygen acts as a powerful cleaning agent, tackling stains, grime, and odours.
