Windows will stay clean on hot days if sprayed with 2 simple kitchen items

Nothing is better than waking up and seeing beautiful blue skies on a summer day, but unfortunately your view can be blocked if your windows are dusty and dirty. Windows can quickly become grimy in summer as there is more pollen in the air which can bake onto the glass in the heat.

Keeping windows clean can also beomce more difficult in hot weather, as liquid evaporates quickly, and leave streaky and cloudy stains on the glass no matter how many times you wipe it down. However Austin, an expert from Shine Window Cleaning, has shared that there is a easy way to clean glass that involves making a homemade solution rather than buying commercial cleaners.

Austin said: ”Most cleaning products aren’t made to be used in the heat, making it difficult to clean your windows in the summer. If you want a product you can use in the heat, make a window cleaner yourself.”

Why should you make your own homemade window cleaner

You will need:

  • 120ml of white vinegar
  • Two tablespoons of cornstarch

Most commercial products contain soap will leaves behind a greasy residue which is why windows tend to streaky in summer.

White vinegar is better as it is a natural cleaner that contains acetic acid, which can break down tough stains like grime and grease that have built up on windows.

However, white vinegar will not be effective at cleaning glass unless you mix it with cornstarch, which is the best solution for preventing streaks.

Cornstarch helps liquid spread more evenly on glass and is also highly absorbent and dries water and vinegar so no residue is left behind.

This simple homemade cleaners will cut through baked on stains without leaving any marks but will also be very gentle of the glass.

How to clean windows in summertime

All you need to do is boil the kettle and pour into a mug until full. Leave it to cool down slightly then use a funnel to pour the hot water into a empty spray bottle.

Empty spray bottles can be found in the cleaning aisle of most supermarkets but can also be found in pound shops and hardware stores.

Next, simply add the 120ml of white vinegar and two tablespoons of cornstarch into the spray bottle.

Give the bottle a good shake to mix all the ingredients. Make sure to shake the spray after each use at the cornstarch can gather at the bottom of the bottle.

Then, just spray a generous amount of the homemade solution onto your window. Wipe using a clean cloth in a circular motion to remove any stains.

Use a dry microfibre cloth to dry the window and it should be sparkling without having to spend ages cleaning or spend money on a less effective commercial product.
