Freeview update fixes 'long-standing issue' - check your TV and follow these steps

Freeview users with a certain set-top box under their TV need to check for an urgent update without delay. The team at Manhattan has just confirmed they've fixed a "long-standing issue" that has affected the very latest TR•4 boxes. These Sky Q-style devices allow owners to watch, pause and record live TV, along with offering access to over 60,000 hours of on-demand and catch-up TV.

The TR•4 has plenty of bonuses and, once you've paid for the device, there are no added fees or subscriptions to pay.

It's clearly tempting, but the box has had problems since launch, including it becoming unresponsive at certain times. Luckily for those who have splashed out an bought one, the gremlins are fixed thanks to a recent update which is available now.

"This update resolves the long-standing issue that could cause your T4•R to become unresponsive when entering or exiting Sleep or Smart standby modes," Manhattan explained.

"As the issue was so hard to reproduce, we appreciate your patience and the valuable assistance many of you provided in testing releases to help us confirm the issue is resolved.

"The update also resolves compatibility issues with the latest versions of the ITVX and U apps, stability issues, and issues with recording reliability, subtitle display, and audio output."

If you happen to have a TR•4 box under your telly, then it's easy to get things updated and bug-free. Firstly, make sure it is connected to the internet via a Wi-Fi connection or Ethernet cable.

You should then find the device will update automatically overnight while in standby.

It's also easy to check that things are up to date. Simply go to: Home → Settings → System → Software Updates → Check for Update Now

A 'Software Updated' message will appear when you first turn on your T4•R after the update

If you happen to be a bit fed up with Freeview, then Sky is now offering a tempting upgrade.

The company has just announced the release of its new Sky Glass Air TV which starts from just £6 per month and doesn't even need an aerial stuck to the chimney.
