Blinds stay dust-free for longer if wiped down with 1 everyday household item![]() Dust will build up on blinds in summer since we have our windowsopen more often, but not many people realise it will keep appearing unless you know how to clean it properly. Hot temperatures can dry out the particles in the air, which makes dust, and it will gather on blinds since they are often made of wood or plastic, which generates a lot of static electricity. However, the cleaning experts from American Blinds have shared that keeping blinds clean for longer is very simple, as all you need are two items you likely already have at home. They said: “For wood, faux wood, mini and PVC blinds, we recommend you use dryer sheets to reduce static cling and help repel dust. “For a deeper cleaning, wear an old pair of fabric gloves and run your fingers along the slats.” It might sound strange, but dryer sheets are one of the best ways to repel dust, as they are designed to be anti-static to stop clothes from clumping together in the washing machine. This means they can be a very useful cleaning tool outside of doing laundry, as they will leave a waxy coating that prevents dust from being able to stick to the surface. Blinds can often be awkward to clean since you need to wipe each slat individually, so using gloves makes it much easier so you don't have to fiddle about with them. Using dryer sheets and gloves to clean with might be unconventional, but it is one of the easiest ways to prevent dustfrom building up to keep your home allergen-free this summer. How to stop dust building up on curtain blindsAll you need to do is mix washing up liquid and warm water in a bucket. Then, put on one of the gloves and dip it into the soapy. Use the wet glove to wipe away as much dust and dirt as you can from each slat, and keep dipping the glove until your blinds are fully clean. Put on the other glove and use it to dry each slat. Make sure your blinds are fully dry as the dryer sheet method will not work on a wet surface. Once the blinds are clean, rub the dryer sheet onto the slats. You can also run it across the windowsill as dust tends to collect there as well. Your window blinds should stay clean for up to a month but they can stay dust free for longer if you regularly vacuum a room and groom your pets to minimise dander. If you have any air freshers sitting near your window then consider moving them as this can leave a sticky residue on blinds that can attract more dust. Source link Posted: 2025-06-10 22:38:48 |
