The secret 30p ingredient to put in your trifle to make it the 'perfect' texture

Trifles are a quick and fun dessert that can be enjoyed during any occasion. What makes the layered dish so great is that you can be so creative with it, using different fruits to create new flavours, catering to all sorts of preferences. But there's one ingredient that all home bakers should be using when they make their next trifle. According to Sam Goldsmith, senior food editor at BBC Good Food, this ingredient which you can purchase for as little as 30p at Sainsbury's, is the key to "add texture" to that "perfect" trifle.

The "surprise ingredient" is simply custard cream biscuits. The popular biscuit is used by being "slightly" pushed into the custard layer of the food expert's retro trifle. While the recipe is recommended for a festive pudding, who says you have to wait for Christmas time to enjoy the delicious dessert. It's time for all home bakers to put the secret ingredient to the test.
