Usain Bolt believes he could have gone even faster in the 100 metres if he pushed harder at the end of his record-breaking run. The legendary sprinter clocked the quickest time in history at the World Athletics Championships in 2009. He ran the distance in an incredible 9.58 seconds but is adamant that he was capable of even more.

Bolt appeared to slow down in the final 20 metres after looking over both shoulders and seeing the rest of the runners behind him. He still managed to set a world-record time, which nobody has ever come close to beating in the years since. However, he believes he would have gone even quicker had he maintained his pace.

Speaking to La Repubblica, Bolt said: "In those seconds I was able to think. I divided the race into several segments. It is fast for the others, slow for me. Maybe in the end I could have pushed a little harder and finished at 9.55."

Bolt has been retired since 2017, shortly after pulling up with a hamstring injury at that year's World Athletics Championships. He has taken up plenty of new hobbies over the last eight years, including a brief venture into professional football.

In 2018, he played two friendly matches with Australian club Central Coast Mariners but was not offered a longer-term deal. Since giving up on his football dreams, Bolt has immersed himself in a new game which brings him plenty of excitement.

The 38-year-old is a keen dominoes player and spends a huge amount of time enjoying the game in his native Jamaica. He said: "I play for six hours a day with friends."

Bolt opened up on his passion for dominoes while appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show last year. He revealed that games against friends can get extremely competitive.

"If you see me playing dominoes, anybody following me on Instagram knows, when I play with my friends, I get really aggressive," he said. "It’s an exciting game. It’s very exciting and stressful.

"Like, [it's exciting] when you know you’re going to win because the key is to get to six without the other players winning one game.

"So, when I’m going to get to six, I’ll get on the table and say: ‘My bag!’ just to celebrate. it’s just something we do."
