There is nothing more frustrating than streaky windows on a sunny day when no light is entering the room, but luckily, they can be easily cleaned in just five minutes. White vinegar is one of the best natural cleaners to cut through any grimy residue, but the experts at Cloudy 2 Clear Windows have shared that the best way to leave no streaks is to also clean with cornstarch. They said: “Combine a teaspoon of cornstarch with vinegar and water to create a solution that breaks down water bonds for spotless, streak-free windows.” 

It may sound bizarre, but the cornstarch that is used for baking is a thick absorbent substance which helps vinegar spread more evenly on the glass and then soaks up any remaining liquid. 

This means no streaks will be left behind after cleaning your windows, and the cornstarch will also help absorb oil, fingerprints, and other easily missed marks, leaving the glass even cleaner and more polished.

White vinegar, which is often used for salad dressing, is one of the best cleaning agents to have in your home as it is acidic enough to dissolve any grease or grime on windows without having to keep wiping them. 

How to clean windows without leaving streaks

To begin, make sure to clean windows on a cloudy day as a hot sunny day causes liquid to dry too quickly, which can leave behind streaks. 

Then simply mix together around 500ml of warm water, 60ml of white vinegar and one teaspoon of cornstarch in an empty spray bottle. 

Spray a generous amount of the solution onto a window, and make sure to focus on particularly grimy areas on the glass. 

Make sure to also shake the spray before each use to make sure the cornflour fully dissolves and is not sitting at the bottom of the bottle. 

Then, use a microfiber cloth to wipe the glass in a circular motion, as this helps remove any grime or marks, then dry the windows completely. 

If you wish, you can also polish the windows after cleaning with a newspaper, as it is highly absorbent to pick up any residue, and the ink helps polish the glass.
