What is Death Of A Unicorn about? All you need to know about new film | Films | Entertainment

Jenna Ortega, the star of Wednesday, is returning to the silver screen in a new horror comedy set to hit cinemas this week.

In Death of a Unicorn, Ortega plays Ridley Kintner, the daughter of a widower who, along with her father, accidentally kills a unicorn during a weekend retreat.

The pair are initially stunned by the real-life encounter with the mythical creature, but soon discover a dark purpose for it.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming comedy.

Death of a Unicorn will be hitting UK cinemas this Friday, April 4, reports the Mirror.

The film made its premiere earlier in March at the South by Southwest Film Festival and debuted in American cinemas last Friday (March 28). It has garnered mixed reviews from both critics and audiences.

Currently, the R-rated film holds a 78 percent score from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, while critics have given it a less favourable rating of 56 percent.

Death Of A Unicorn centres around a father-daughter team who are en route to a remote estate owned by a wealthy pharmaceutical company's CEO. Along the way, they injure a horse-like creature and decide to stow it in their car boot.

Upon reaching the estate, they find out that the creature possesses remarkable healing abilities. The estate owner, upon discovering this, decides to exploit the unicorn's medicinal properties for his own gain.

This horror-comedy marks the directorial debut of Alex Scharfman, who has previously worked as a film producer and writer.

The glittering line-up includes Ortega, who rose to prominence on Netflix's popular series Wednesday. She shares the screen with Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), who plays her on-screen father Elliot Kintner.

Joining them is Oscar-nominated actor Richard E. Grant, who takes on the role of Elliot's boss and affluent healthcare CEO, Odell Leopold.

Will Poulter from Guardians of The Galaxy also stars as Leopold's son, Shepard.

The ensemble cast is rounded off by Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Sunita Mani (Everything Everywhere All At Once), David Pasquesi (Veep) and Steve Park (Mickey 17).

Death Of A Unicorn is in cinemas this Friday (April 4).
