Flood warnings and alerts have been issued with higher than usual tides expected across a large swathe of the country. The Environment Agency says flooding is expected in parts of Kent, West Sussex and Norfolk.

Winds are also expected to impact tides, which are set to be higher than usual from half past midnight until 2am on Monday (March 31). A flood warning for Bosham and West Itchenor near Chichester says Monday's early morning tide at 1.30am will be above the normal level, with flooding affecting properties and slipways, according to the Environment Agency.

High tides are also expected to cause flooding overnight at St Margaret's at Cliffe, Dover, Folkestone and Sandgate. Low lying properties are at risk, as are coastal roads and footpaths.

People have been warned to stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal paths and roads as waves and sea spray "could be dangerous", according to the Environment Agency.

Flooding here is expected at about a quarter to one on Monday morning. Flood gates are being closed at those locations as well as around Dungeness.

While conditions on the coast will improve later on Monday, flooding is expected at about 1am tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency expected high spring tides combined with a tidal surge to prompt higher tide levels than usual between 7.45pm and 9.45pm this evening.

Spots most at risk were North Beach, Jubilee Road and South Beach in Heacham as well as South Beach Road, Seagate Road and the seafront at Hunstanton.

Properties in front of flood defences along the sea front at Snettisham are also most at risk over the same period.

A further flood warning, meaning flooding is likely, was also issued for the north Norfolk coast at Salthouse and Cley.

The flood warning area includes the north Norfolk coast at east Cley and Salthouse, including parts of the A149 coast Road, Beach Road and surrounding marshland.

Another flood warning came into force at 6.45pm on Sunday (March 30) for Wells Quay. Areas identified by the Environment Agency as most at risk were The Quay, East End, and roads joining the Quay between the Flood Barrier and East End.

These included Unns Yard, Jicklings Yard, Staithe Street, Croft Yard and Standard Street.

Flooding is also expected at the Wye Estuary around Brockweir, where a series of high tides were expected over three days from Saturday night (March 29).

Across the country, 65 flood alerts have been issued, including in Sussex and Kent, affecting Dartford, Whitstable, Margate, Ramsgate and parts of the River Medway.
