Toilets will be left sparkling clean if you use 1 surprising bathroom item

More commonly used with a razor, next time you’re giving your bathroom a clean, you might want to try pairing this toiletry item with a microfibre cloth instead. Whether your sink is in need of a quick polish, or your mirror could do with dusting, this handy item could also save you having to make the trip to the cupboard or drawer where you keep your usual bathroom cleaning supplies.

A great alternative to many household cleaners, shaving foam is not only an effective way to remove hair, but also dirt and grime in your bathroom. As it contains surfactants, an ingredient also found in cleaning agents and stain removers, shaving foam works in a similar way to these items by lifting and dissolving dirt from surfaces. And the great thing about this hack is that you probably already have a can in your bathroom that you can put to use.

It’s also an effective way to eliminate odours, and as it’s intended for use on the skin, it’s a much more gentle alternative for use on surfaces than other household cleaners, which can sometimes leave a chemical residue.

Thanks to its ability to eliminate smells and stains, it’s potent when put to use around the toilet. Applying a generous amount to your toilet brush, instead of using thick bleach, you can simply use the foam to scrub the bowl clean.

And it doesn’t stop there. The area around your toilet can also be a magnet for germs, with dirt easily building up around the base of the toilet and grout.

Thanks to shaving foam's expanding effect when sprayed out of the can, it’s able to get into corners of the toilet that might otherwise be tricky to clean.

Shaving foam is less harsh than traditional household cleaners, which means you can apply it directly to the base of the toilet and leave it to work. Scrub away and use a microfibre cloth to wipe it down with clean, warm water for a sparkling toilet.

If you’ve noticed your mirrors have been fogging up, you can also apply a thin layer of shaving cream and buff it away with a microfibre cloth until it’s sparkling clean. This should prevent fogging, but it will need to be done weekly to maintain it.

When used in your home, shaving foam will work on any smudge-prone surface, especially shower doors, where soap easily builds up, leaving them looking misty. Letting the foam sit on your shower door for a few minutes before wiping it away and going over it with a quick rinse will quickly remedy this.
