Liverpool player ratings vs Newcastle: Two 9/10s dismantle Magpies as title edges closer | Football | Sport

Liverpool comfortably saw off Newcastle United at Anfield to go 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister came up with the goals on a night when Mohamed Salah was the key creator, with the Reds' star man putting in another superb performance.

Arne Slot watched on from the stands as he served the first of a two-game touchline ban, but he will have been more than pleased by what he saw as his players took another step towards the title.

Here, Express Sport takes you through how each Liverpool player performed on the night...

Liverpool player ratings vs Newcastle

Alisson: 7

Didn't have a single shot on target to save but will still be grateful for another clean sheet.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7 (Quansah, 77)

Newcastle were stand-offish and stayed compact early on, giving Alexander-Arnold the space to spray forward passes into feet. Defended well against Joe Willock.

Virgil van Dijk: 7

Wayward cross-field ball was intercepted in the first half but he won the physical battle against Callum Wilson, even though the Newcastle man did get a couple of glimpses at goal.

Ibrahima Konate: 6

Caught out by a ball over the top to Wilson and was lucky not to concede. A couple of early mistakes but acclimatised in the end.

Kostas Tsimikas: 6

Could have made a statement after stepping in for Andrew Robertson but only delivered a middle-of-the-road performance.

Ryan Gravenberch: 7 (Endo, 77)

Knows what he's good at and delivers it on a consistent basis. Always neat, always looking to turn and draw fouls. A good night for him.

Alexis Mac Allister: 8

Showed his intelligence and technical ability against a Newcastle midfield which has caused problems for other big teams. Started and finished the move which saw him blast past Nick Pope for Liverpool's second.

Mohamed Salah: 9

No goal for the Egyptian but his play-making was sublime. He's brimming with confidence, trying expertimental balls and finding little gaps. Great composure to assist Mac Allister, and nearly created another with a spectacular outside-of-the-foot cross to Luis Diaz.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 8

Seems to have come alive in the No. 10 role in recent weeks, and could help Liverpool get a second wind down the home stretch. Rolled a low finish into the bottom corner for his fourth goal in eight games, and almost curled another into the far corner.

Luis Diaz: 9

Brilliant assist for Szoboszlai, driving into the box and picking him out with a low ball. Led a great counter-attack before finding Diogo Jota. Showed tremendous tenacity to tackle on the halfway line, power forward and create a Tsimikas chance. Diaz played a huge part from the left wing.

Diogo Jota: 7 (Gakpo, 62)

Could have done more with a couple of early opportunities but pressed hard from the front and created a decent chance for Szoboszlai.

SUBS

Cody Gakpo: 5

Not the best cameo, fumbled a chance after good work from Salah and Diaz.

A late addition.

Jarell Quansah: N/A

A late addition.
