How to remove stains from toilet seats without bleach or vinegar

Toilet seat stains stem from a variety of sources such as product residue, tanning lotions and mineral build-up and leave an unsightly range of colours on the loo, from orange and yellow to brown or green.

If your toilet is located in direct view of the sun, it could also cause staining. Constant exposure to the sun’s rays can change the colour of your toilet seat from white to yellowish in spots.

A cleaning fan, aiming for that perfect clean look, sought advice from a Mrs Hinch fan group on Facebook, asking how to remove stubborn yellow stains from a toilet seat at a new client's house.

Accompanying the query was an image of the toilet seat in question, with the comment: “Hello, can anyone tell me how to get rid of this? Just started a new client and would like to try and get rid. Thank you.”

Members of the group came forth with their hero solution: a budget-friendly item known as a “magic eraser”.

Karla Taylor endorsed the product with personal testimony: “Magic erasers 100 percent. I have two boys and a hubby that seem to piss everywhere and it’s the only thing I use.”

Catherine King also supported using solely the magic eraser: “A magic eraser, no cleaning products needed. You just wet the eraser. I use the Elbow Grease ones as they are thicker. Good luck.”

Similarly, Janet Leith praised the efficacy of magic eraser sponges, and Lemma Ryley agreed, stating: “I second this. Nothing worked better to get rid of the stuff than a magic sponge.”

Another cleaning enthusiast took to the Facebook page and shared their love of a magic eraser. Zoe Croose said: “I posted yesterday about yellow marks on my toilet seat.

“Many suggestions but may I say Flash Magic Eraser. Wow. It got the stains off easy as anything.”

These magic erasers are simply made from melamine foam and need only water to work wonders, requiring no additional chemical cleaners or soap.

Fans of Mrs Hinch also recommended the Pink Stuff paste as an effective solution. Leah Kennett praised its effortless results, saying: “Pink stuff paste! Works wonders no effort needed.”

Tracey Morgan claimed that the Pink Stuff paste removes stubborn stains in seconds, while Louise Marie swore by its effectiveness, stating: “10000 percent the pink paste. Mine was bad and all came off I had previously tried everything.”

Beth Watson added: “Pink Stuff Paste! I had stains on mine from bleach and it rubbed it off instantly.”
