Time to ditch your dish? Sky confirms something 'better' is launching

Sky has big news this week, and it might be time to switch to a new way of watching the TV. The famous telly provider is holding a major launch event on Tuesday, February 11, where it is promising to unveil something very exciting. In a recent invitation sent to Express.co.uk, Sky confirmed, "Hello from Sky. Be one of the first to see what's next. Smarter, brighter and better than ever."

That’s all the details Sky is giving away at the minute, but reading between the lines, it seems a new Glass television could be on its way. The first Sky Glass telly arrived all the way back in 2021 with it, offering a seamless way to tune into live and on-demand content without the need for a dish. In fact, everything is beamed to the screen via the web instead of a standard over-the-air signal.

Since it first landed in stores, Sky has been regularly updating the software and adding more features such as more personalised playlists and easier ways to find favourite content. However, the hardware - including the QLED 4K screen - has stayed the same.

With the invite promising something “brighter”, could that hint that a new telly is on its way with a better screen?

For example, many have been hoping Sky would launch an OLED version of Glass which would bring improved visuals to homes. This better screen technology, which has no backlight, is capable of producing richer blacks and brighter whites

OLED displays can also be much thinner, and that could allow Sky to reduce the pretty chunky size of its current Glass telly.

Of course, there are other products Sky could also refresh at the event including its ageing Sky Q devices and diddy Sky Stream boxes which also use the web to access content.

Whatever is launched, it looks set to be an exciting few days ahead for telly addicts.

We will be at the Sky event in London this week and will bring you all the news live. If you think you are in need a new set-top box or pin-sharp TV, watch this space.
