Bathroom smells lovely and 'fresh for weeks' with 22p item

It's a well known fact that our bathrooms are prone to trapping unwanted odours thanks to factors like excess moisture, poor ventilation and a build up of dirt and grime.

But by keeping our bathrooms sparkling clean, we can not only keep unwanted dirt and germs at bay, we can also help to get rid of nasty niffs.

To ensure our bathrooms always smell sweeter, one TikTok star has revealed a budget-friendly cleaning trick that not only freshens but also eliminates germs – and all for as little as 22p.

Donna Mendoza, known as The Cleaning Lady on TikTok, simply adds a laundry detergent pod to her bathroom cleaning routine to demonstrate that you don’t need expensive products to keep your bathroom smelling fresh.

In a short video shared with her 1.5million followers, the cleaning guru said she keeps her bathroom "smelling fresh for weeks" by making one simple change to her toilet brush holder.

In the short video, Donna demonstrates how to use laundry pods in a creative way. She mixes one laundry pod with hot water in a bowl, then uses a fork to break it down before pouring the solution into the toilet brush holder. Any remaining mixture can be poured into the toilet itself.

She then gives the inside of the toilet bowl a quick once over with the brush, leaving it looking great and smelling just as good as your clean washing does.

The laundry capsules work in much the same way as they do in the washing machine, breaking down dirt and killing germs and some detergents contain antimicrobial agents, which means you won’t need extra cleaning products.

Effective and easy to do, this sweet-smelling bathroom hack is easy on the wallet too. Fairy Liquid pods cost just £12 for 51 pods at Tesco, meaning each use is only around 23p.

Alternatively, Ariel’s Colour All-in-1 pods, priced at £11 for 51 washes at Ocado, work out to just 22p per pod.

It's no wonder this easy tip is proving popular with house proud Brits either. According to research undertaken by Plumbworld in 2023, 79% of people in the UK clean their bathrooms at least once a week, with nearly 25% cleaning daily.

The cleaning wizard provides another useful water-based cleaning tip in her video too.

In what she refers to as a "sink brew": she mixes warm water, scented dish soap and multi-surface cleanser which she uses to wash down her walls and doors.

The influencer calls it "one of [her] favourite" cleaning tricks to "never have lingering odours – [her bathroom] always smells nice and clean".
