Dog owners are well aware of the importance of their furry friends doing their business during daily walks, as it's crucial for their health.

However, a vet has now revealed there's a specific number of times dogs should be going to the loo each day. Dr Nicole Rous took to TikTok to share some vital advice on what's considered "normal" for our canine companions.

If your dog is pooing less or more than this, it might be time for a vet visit. Dr Rous explained: "Did you know it's not normal for dogs to poo more than three times a day? You should be pooing one to three times a day.

"Any more than three is not normal - you need to speak to your vet. Any less than one time a day is not normal either - you need to speak to your vet."

She warned that deviations could indicate underlying issues ranging from gut to mental health problems. The video quickly racked up views and prompted a flurry of questions from concerned pet owners.

One grateful viewer commented: "Thank you." Another dog owner asked: "I have four dogs. I swear 99% of the time we go out for free run or lead walking they all poo. Always have a roll of bags. For interest, does this happen because of excitement etc?"

A third also shared: "My dog was going eight plus times a day. On raw she's going three to four, but she does have gut issues which are being managed."

According to experts, a healthy adult dog typically needs to go to the toilet once or twice daily. However, this frequency can vary depending on factors such as the dog's size, diet, exercise level and age, with some dogs going up to three times a day.

Contrastingly, puppies may go more frequently, such as up to five times a day. If concerns arise about a dog's bowel movements, it's advisable to consult a professional for guidance.
