Mo Salah breaks silence after Carragher's Liverpool contract dig - 'obsessed' | Football | Sport

Mohamed Salah has accused Jamie Carragher of being "obsessed" with him after the Sky Sports pundit spoke out over how the Liverpool forward was handling his contract situation. The back-and-for started after Salah took to Instagram to post a photo of himself, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, with no caption.

It appeared a reference to the ongoing saga with the trio, who are yet to sign new deals with the Anfield club with their current contracts expiring this summer.

Carragher was asked about the upload on Sky Sports News, and pointedly implied it was only Van Dijk who had handled the situation correctly so far.

"I would say Virgil van Dijk has come out of this whole situation this season, as the captain of the club, in a higher esteem for me. The way he's conducted himself, his performances on the pitch, the way he's led the team, the way he was yesterday as well.

"And he hasn't got involved in too much around this. It's obviously a really important time for all three players, we know that. But rather than speak about Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mo Salah, I'd rather pay tribute to Virgil van Dijk."

Carragher went on to say: "I think the other two could maybe look at Virgil van Dijk and take a leaf out of his book." That comment drew a response from Salah.

The Egyptian posted the footage on X, and wrote "I’m starting to think you’re obsessed with me." He also added a wink emoji, with the former Liverpool defender duly hitting back with humour.

"I’ve always been obsessed with you @MoSalah," he wrote back. "Hopefully that obsession will continue next season," with the pundit using a thumbs-up emoji to suggest he had no issue with the 32-year-old.

Despite the uncertainty over his future, Salah has continued to perform superbly at club level this season. His penalty against Manchester United on Sunday was his 18th Premier League goal of the season, and 21st in all competitions.

But concern is growing at Anfield over the failure to reach an agreement over his contract negotiations. And he's regularly dropped hints that he won't be on Merseyside for the 2024/25 campaign, implying in an interview last week

Asked why he was so intent of winning the title, he told Sky Sports: "It's probably because we didn't celebrate the one we won in the way we wanted and also, coming back here too, it's my last year in the club so you want to do something special for the city."
