Layton Williams: ‘How often do I have sex? Often. In my 20s I was a rampant rabbit’ | Layton Williams

Born in Greater Manchester, Layton Williams, 30, began his career at the age of 12, in the West End production of Billy Elliot. He went on to appear in TV shows Bad Education and I Hate Suzie and was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. His films include Rocketman and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie; the latter role he also played on stage. Earlier this year he appeared in Cabaret and he is currently in Titanique at the Criterion theatre in London. He lives in the capital.

What is your greatest fear?
Dying: I’m too iconic to go.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Patience is not my forte.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Bad personal hygiene.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
Falling flat on my face in Billy Elliot on Boxing Day when I was 14. I fell smack bang at the end of my number. I was mortified.

Aside from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?
A Vivienne Westwood & Burberry two-piece suit I bought for a press night. At the time I was: “Yeah, of course I’m going to be a 30-inch waist for the rest of my life.” Now the trousers don’t fit.

Describe yourself in three words
Fun, fab and fearless.

What is the worst thing anyone’s said to you?
Racial and homophobic slurs – the F- and N-words. When I moved to London, people screamed the F-word from their cars, and that stings.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
I have the weirdest-shaped big toe – it’s like a triangle.

If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
I’d love to party with Freddie Mercury.

Who would play you in the film of your life?
There’s only one me.

What is your most unappealing habit?
I do sometimes say what I think without thinking about the consequences.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Going home, putting my feet up on the couch and my partner cooking something gorgeous while I watch trash TV.

What does love feel like?
Electric.

Have you ever said ‘I love you’ and not meant it?
I do say “Ily” a lot to people, but it’s like thank you.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Slay, period, why yes!

What is the worst job you’ve done?
I was a secret shopper and had to do a lot of bookies – Coral and William Hill – all around London. For 18-year-old me looking all fab it was quite scary going in and saying: “Hiya, can I put £4 on No 7 horse, please?” But you got to keep the money when you won.

If not yourself, who would you most like to be?
Someone who lives a hippy life by the sea, who owns a cute cocktail bar that someone else runs.

How often do you have sex?
Often. In my 20s I was a rampant rabbit – now I’ve started to chill out a little.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
An extra day in the week when no one can contact you.

Would you rather have more sex, money or fame?
Money.

What happens when we die?
I really hope there is a big pearly gate.
