Smethwick: Boy, 2, killed and 4 adults hospitalised in hit-and-run collision | UK | News

Police are appealing for the driver of a Porsche who fled the scene following a collision which left a two-year-old boy dead to hand themselves in.

Police and paramedics were called to Dartmouth Road, in Smethwick, West Midlands following the crash on Saturday night.

Emergency services say that the toddler and four adults were rushed to hospital following the incident but sadly, the little boy could not be saved.

A woman aged 29 and a 30-year-old man remain in a serious condition following the incident whilst another man and woman aged 30 are in a stable condition.

West Midlands Police have now launched a manhunt for the owner of a grey Porsche Cayenne, which can be worth around £80,000.

Following preliminary investigations the police believe that the grey Porsche Cayenne was travelling from the island on Kenrick Way before it hit a Toyota on Dartmouth Road.

Police records show that the Porsche was stolen earlier this month.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the family of the little boy at this extremely difficult time.

"I would urge the driver of the Porsche to do the right thing and come and talk to us. They made the wrong decision to run away and I'm asking them now to make the right one.

"I also want to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn't already spoken to us, or has CCTV or dash-cam footage to get in touch."

A spokesperson added: “We have spoken to witnesses and CCTV enquiries in and around the area are underway.

“The road was closed in both directions while specialist reconstruction staff examined the scene, but has now reopened.”
