Commuters are facing rush hour delays on a major UK motorway after horror van crash.

A section of M11 has been closed after a car and van collided between J7A & J7 in Chelmsford causing a delay of around 60 minutes, the authorities have said.

The National Highways said that the incident has led to a congestion of around three miles. 

It said: "The M11 in Essex is closed southbound between J7A (Harlow) and J7 (Chelmsford) due to a collision involving a van and car.

"Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and National Highways Traffic Officers are at scene.

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
