Floyd Mayweather breaks silence on being 'attacked' in London | Boxing | Sport

Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather has broken his silence on reports he was attacked while out shopping in London.

The former world champion, 47, was spotted visiting a jewellery store in the famous Camden area of Hatton Garden in north London as he browsed some of the stores' expensive bling.

Video footage on social media appeared to show a large crowd of people moving towards him and his security team as tensions threatened to boil over.

Mayweather, who was wearing a green jacket, was escorted out of the shop and into a 4x4 black car waiting outside, while some member of his security team remained the scene.

According to an eyewitness account in The Sun, he was confronted by a group of between eight and 10 people.

It is reported that Mayweather was targeted due to his views on the Israel-Palestine conflict, having allegedly said he was 'proud to support the Jews' when quizzed on his stance.

However, Mayweather has set the record straight by claiming there was 'no truth' to the reports concerning the reported attack.

"Let me set the record straight… there is no truth to the rumours going around," Mayweather wrote on Instagram. "I wasn’t punched or touched in any way. What you are seeing is just my security doing their job to keep things under control.

"I was in the UK for a quick 48-hour stop to do some shopping and unfortunately, people let jealousy and negativity fuel false stories. I’m perfectly fine and there is really nothing more to it."

One of Mayweather's bodyguards, Greg La Rosa, replied to the post seemingly backing up his version of events with fire and applause emojis.

Only days ago, the former American fighter launched the Mayweather Israel Initiative, with the aim of giving every orphan in Israel a free birthday present.

In November, Mayweather hosted a barbecue at an Israel Defense Forces military base and was a guest of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who he publicly urged to 'never back down'.

He was also one of the first big celebrities to visit the Middle Eastern nation after last year's October 7 attacks by Hamas, in which over 1,000 civilians were killed.

Mayweather announced his retirement from boxing in 2015 before stepping back into the ring two years later to fight UFC icon Conor McGregor.

He beat the Irishman to extend his undefeated record to 50-0 and has been involved in a number of lucrative exhibition fights since then.

Mayweather beat TV reality star Aaron Chalmers in London last year and also fought against YouTuber Logan Paul back in 2021.
