The clocks have gone forward which means the sun is setting an hour later than it did a few days ago. Over the next few weeks and months that same sun will mean that Britain’s days will get hotter too.

New weather maps from Netweather and WXCharts have revealed exactly when April’s long-awaited surge of heat will strike and just how high the mercury will rise.

According to the maps, temperatures will surge upwards as high as 16 degrees on Friday, April 5 at the end of the first working week of the month.

The hottest areas will be in the south and south east with London and East Anglia seeing the highest temperatures. Further south, towns, villages, and cities on the south coast such as Brighton, Newhaven, Dover, and Southampton will experience a slightly cooler 12 or 13 degrees.

In the southwest, Devon and Cornwall’s towns will enjoy temperatures in the early teens too, as will Cardiff and Swansea on Wales’ south coast.

Temperatures will be slightly lower further north as Scotland’s weather will remain slightly colder. Cities such as Edinburgh, Inverness, and Glasgow will experience temperatures of around seven or eight degrees.

Overall, the majority of the mild temperatures will be felt by those living in the south and east of the UK, during a busy month of weather.

April is set to be filled with a mix of milder temperatures and occasional rain. In their long-range forecast, the Met Office warned that the weather will change constantly after April 5.

They predicted: “The ongoing unsettled spell of weather seems likely to continue into this period with little sign of any dramatic change.

“Areas of rain are likely to become more widespread across the UK through the first few days of the period, with western hills likely to see the largest rainfall totals.

“Probably widely windy, with a risk of spells of gales, or even severe gales at first in the exposed west and south.

“Over the following week, there may be a trend towards slightly longer spells of more settled weather from the south east, pushing the focus of most frequent rain towards the northwest. Whilst possibly cold in the extreme north at first, above average temperatures, albeit tempered by cloud and rain, will prevail overall.”

This Evening and Tonight:

Spells of rain, some heavy across parts of southwest England and southeast Wales, pushing northwards overnight. Drier in Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland with clear spells and fog patches developing in northeastern England. Milder than previous nights.

Monday:

Largely dry in the north with sunnier spells in the northwest. Cloudier elsewhere with rain, heavy at times pushing northwards. Heavier showers developing in the south, though feeling rather warm.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Largely unsettled and cloudy with showers and longer spells of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, drier to the far north. Further rain arriving from the west on Thursday. Average temperatures.
