UK heatwave hopes dashed as 300-mile storm bomb to smash into Britain | Weather | News

The UK's hopes of a 72-hour heatwave could be dashed as a storm warning has been put in place for some parts of the country.

Brits were expecting some sun following a rainy few days as temperatures were forecasted to soar up to 24C, according to NetWeather forecasters.

But new weather maps now show that a storm could be set to hit parts of the country later this week.

The Met Office predicts heavy rain, hail and even thunder from Wednesday through to Friday.

However, the weather is set to start becoming drier through Friday.

On Monday, slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms could cause flooding and disruption in places in Scotland.

A yellow weather warning has been issued from northern Scotland around 313 miles down past Edinburgh, ending around the town of Jedburgh.

The Met Office is advising people in the areas covered by the warning to remain vigilant to spray and sudden flooding, which could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

They also warned of lightning strikes, hail, strong winds and some chance of power cuts. There is also a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life, according to the national weather service.

UK five day weather forecast:

Monday:

Showers will ease away this evening, however, cloud will continue to increase across the southwest of the UK, with patchy rain here. Temperatures falling into single figures under the clearest skies.

Tuesday:

A bright start in the north and east, though cloud and rain across the southwest will move northwards as the day progresses. Sunnier skies following, with scattered showers.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Staying on the unsettled side, with sunny spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers will be heavy, with hail and thunder. Slowly becoming drier through Friday. Temperatures near average.
