Just over two decades ago, the Hollywood actor who performs his own stunts starred in The Last Samurai. The historical epic sees him play an American Army Captain who ends up in contact with samurai warriors during the wake of the Meiji Restoration in 19th-century Japan. The film’s plot was inspired by Takamori’s 1877 Satsuma Rebellion, when disaffected samurai revolted against the new imperial government.
