Opening the curtains to a beautiful sunny day can instantly lift your spirits, but a dirty window can ruin both the view and your mood. Although many people do not clean their windows regularly, in summer, dust and pollen are more likely to cling to the glass since there are more flowers in bloom.

Grimy windows not only make your home appear dark and gloomy, but if the dirt is left to build up, it can lead to staining or even damage the glass over time. Luckily, the experts at Keen Clean have revealed there is a very simple cleaning method that can leave your windows sparkling in just a few minutes, and all you need is a few tea bags.

They said: “Black tea is slightly acidic, more oxidized than other varieties of tea and much stronger. Other than being the strongest variety of tea, it makes the best glass cleaning solution there is around.”

It might sound strange, bur black tea contains a natural component called tannins which is mildly acidic which helps cut through grease and dirt stains.

Tannins can also help naturally shine glass so it will look polished and professional cleaned without much effort.

It is a really easy way to get windows clean without having to spend any money or having to use a harsher chemical solution.

How to clean windows with tea bags

To begin, boil the kettle, add two to three teabags to a jug and them pour over the boiling hot water.

Leave the jug alone for five to 10 minutes to allow the tea bags to seep. The water should have cooled down and be a dark amber colour once it is ready to use.

Then, carefully pour the cleaning solution into a empty spray bottle. You can buy empty spray bottles at the gardening section of most supermarkets but you can find them in pound shops or hardware stores.

Spray a generous amount of the cleaning solution onto the glass. Make sure to wipe the glass either downwards or across but do not change your movement while cleaning otherwise it could leave streaks.

When drying your windows use a piece of newspaper, coffee filter or paper towel. Paper does not leave lint on the glass like a fibre cloth would and is highly absorbent which helps quickly soak up any liquid so it does not leave streaks.

Your windows should be clean and polished in under 10 minutes so you can enjoy having more natural light coming into your home this summer.
