An American who tried out a traditional British lunch was shocked by a major difference in how sandwiches are served. Jules is an American living in Britain who shares content about her British husband Tom and their family on their @peachyfamilyuk TikTok channel.
They often highlight surprising cultural differences between Britain and the US and have built a massive audience with 81k followers on the platform. Jules shared a video of her mum during a visit to the Canal Tearoom & Garden in Tiverton, Devon, as she had a lunch of crisps, sandwiches, and a salad. Her mum appeared surprised by the presence of "shredded" cheese in the sandwiches.
Jules asked her mum if she noticed there was no mayo on the sarnies, explaining that Brits "put butter on their sandwiches".
Jules' mum said she preferred mayo, after which Jules said when she makes a sandwich for Tom he "wants me to put butter, then mayo", which raised eyebrows again.
Both laughed as Jules admitted "I never do".
But the one thing that astounded the American mum the most was the fact the salad was "dry" - and without any ranch salad dressing.
An American tourist told Express.co.uk last year about another thing that struck them about British food.
Adam and Steph, from Boston, Massachusetts visited the Cotswolds and we asked them about anything that surprised them about British life.
Steph joked: "We have been to Britain quite a few times. I have been pondering the toast. Why is there so much toast everywhere?"
They travelled throughout the Cotswolds in the summer of 2024 and said they love the countryside and walking opportunities.
Speaking in Chipping Campden, Adam said: "It is lovely here, and excellent mud! We love the rain!"
