Man Utd and Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres releases transfer statement in fresh twist | Football | Sport![]() The Viktor Gyokeres transfer saga has taken another twist, a day after Sporting president Frederico Varandas aimed fire at the striker's agent over reports about his valuation. Gyokeres, who is a target of Manchester United and Arsenal, has seemingly hit back at Varandas on social media, releasing an ominous statement. On Wednesday, the Sporting chief poured cold water on reports claiming the club agreed to accept a fee as low as £59million for their star man this summer. He insisted that while the Portuguese champions won't demand Gyokeres' £85m release clause, they didn't settle on a future fee with representative Hasan Cetinkaya in a meeting last summer. Varandas added that Gyokeres won't be allowed to leave for the touted price, nudging his suitors to go higher when the bidding begins. His comments followed reports in Portugal stating that the 27-year-old had been left furious at Sporting's attempts to go against a gentleman's agreement over their asking price. Gyokeres is said to have told Sporting that he won't play for the club again due to the alleged disrespect, essentially going on strike to force a move. And amid all the noise, the Swede has publicly come out and addressed the situation himself with a short statement on his Instagram story. Gyokeres wrote: "There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right." The former Coventry City striker has established himself as one of Europe's most lethal finishers since leaving England for Sporting in 2023. Gyokeres has plundered 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Lisbon giants, most of which came under United head coach Ruben Amorim. He reportedly features high up on Amorim's striker shortlist alongside Victor Osimhen, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Hugo Ekitike. But after contributing an incredible 54 strikes in 52 games last season, Sporting are clearly keen to only part ways if a suitor can match their lofty valuation. Arsenal are also in the running as Mikel Arteta prepares to bolster his Premier League title aspirations with the arrival of a new goalscorer. The Gunners have been strongly linked with Gyokeres, but reports in recent weeks suggest their current priority is striking a deal for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Neither option would come cheap, especially after Sporting ruled out the prospect of Gyokeres departing for as low as £59m. His future looks set to rumble on as a prominent topic throughout the summer transfer window, but it's clear he considers it away from the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
