Matthew McConaughey's tuna salad recipe has one surprising ingredient![]() Tuna salad, a lunchtime favourite for many, has been given a Hollywood twist by none other than Matthew McConaughey. The actor, known for his Oscar-winning performances, self-proclaimed himself as the 'tuna-fish salad master maker' before his unique recipe sent social media into a frenzy. The star shared his culinary secret on the podcast 2 Bears 1 Cave, with The Salad Lab quickly sharing their own video of his dish to their 2.7 million followers. The creation starts off fairly normally- lemon and vinegar, sparingly mixed with mayo. But it's the unexpected addition of wasabi paste that really gives this dish its kick. As recommended by the True Detective lead: "You whip it up to a little light green [paste]. Get that in there on the tuna... because whatever you put on the tuna first is gonna soak up." Then, it's just a case of putting in the remaining ingredients, as below: • can of tuna • a dollop of mayonnaise • a smidge of wasabi • 1 tablespoon lemon juice • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar • 1 tablespoon Italian dressing • a small amount of finely chopped red onion • dill pickle, sliced up to taste • A few spoonfuls of peas • A few spoonfuls of peas • crispy jalapeno chips • chopped apples • 1 tablespoon agave nectar Opinions in the comments section were fiercely split over the unorthodox concoction. A self-professed food lover exclaimed: "I love your recipes but this is a sickening amount of mayo". In contrast, someone else claimed their ground with an alternative twist: "My mom used to put hard boiled eggs, celery, & black olives in her tuna. Celery is a staple. I'd get the crunch from celery rather than apple. I could do peas, skip the corn probably." According to McConaughey, his preferred way to enjoy this dish is the day after, jazzed up with pickles and ketchup. It's certainly an eclectic mix – but each to their own!
