Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told to target two positions after Benjamin Sesko transfer | Football | Sport![]() It’s being framed as a crucial transfer window for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, who are desperate to bridge the gap from second to top spot. Three consecutive seasons have come and gone with Arsenal finishing second - something Arteta and co. are said to be working hard to change. Adding goals to their starting XI has been mooted as a major priority for the summer transfer window, with Benjamin Sesko having emerged as the most likely candidate. The Slovenian striker has been on the club’s radar for some time, and Arsenal even explored a deal for Sesko last summer. However, according to former Gunners ace Ray Parlour, just adding Sesko to their ranks won’t be enough to maintain a title challenge next term. Speaking to The Metro, Parlour said: "‘A winger would still be great to cover [Bukayo] Saka and Martinelli. [A deal for Martin] Zubimendi appears to be getting closer, but the striker is the most important position for me. Obviously, [Benjamin] Sesko has been well linked and he looks a good, young player. Very strong, quick and knows where the back of the net is, so he’d be a great addition." However, Parlour doesn’t believe Jack Grealish would make sense as a possible option for Arsenal on the wing, insisting the capital club should be looking elsewhere. Grealish is set to leave Manchester City this summer and was recently left out of their squad for the Club World Cup. He explained: “Jack is getting to that age where he just needs to play regularly, so he should be looking to go to a place where he thinks he can start every single week. Whether that could be Arsenal is up in the air because [Gabriel] Martinelli came back into form towards the end of the season. “Arsenal, I’m sure would be interested if the deal was right for the club but there’s quite a lot of good wingers out there and maybe Mikel should be looking for someone a bit younger and a bit more dynamic. I’m sure there are lots and lots of clubs who would be interested but he has to be flexible.” Arsenal, who are yet to sign anyone this summer, will be keen to get deals over the line when the window reopens on June 16. Following that, they’ll have until September 1 to complete deals, with the Premier League season getting underway in mid-August. Source link Posted: 2025-06-12 06:59:47 |
