Ballymena riots live: Police face third night of violence as unrest sp | UK | News

Police officers are under attack in Northern Ireland for the third night in a row, as violent unrest continues to unfold after riots broke out in Ballymena on Monday.

Over the past few days, more than 30 members of law enforcement have been injured in fiery clashes with protesters, while homes across the town have had their windows smashed in or set ablaze.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has been forced to call in reinforcements from Scotland and England as the violent unrest continues into a third day, with disorder spreading to other areas of Northern Ireland. During the day on Wednesday, rioters set fire to a community centre 20 miles away in Larne.

Local Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson slammed the protests as "racist thuggery" on Tuesday, after the first night of violence and arson. By Wednesday evening, PSNI armoured vans and riot cops were already flooding into Ballymena, where fireworks and debris continue to be thrown at officers.
