Viktor Gyokeres transfer 'meeting' held as Man Utd and Arsenal sweat over £67m move | Football | Sport![]() Viktor Gyokeres is more likely to join Arsenal than Manchester United after a new development, according to reports. The prolific Sporting forward is widely expected to move on this summer and is attracting no shortage of interest from the Premier League. His situation has accelerated over the last 24 hours and it seems a deal could be engineered in the near future. It has been suggested that Gyokeres is livid with Sporting for going back on their gentleman's agreement to allow him to leave for a reduced price. He was reportedly promised that he could find a new club for around £59million despite having a release clause worth £84m. However, it is claimed that Sporting are now seeking £67m to part ways with him. United have been linked with Gyokeres for some time, given that he excelled under Ruben Amorim before the latter moved to Old Trafford. Arsenal have also been touted as a possible destination and it seems the Gunners may have moved into the driving seat. According to Portuguese outlet Record, the north Londoners held a meeting with Gyokeres' agent Hasan Cetinkaya on Wednesday night. The summit reportedly marked 'a new phase in the contacts that have been taking place for several days'. The report adds that Arsenal are now expected to submit a formal offer ahead of the transfer window re-opening next week. They are said to be the 'closest club' in the race to sign Gyokeres before the start of next season. United, however, are also thought to be 'particularly active' with contacts said to have intensified over the last week or so. Meanwhile, a handful of other clubs are believed to be monitoring the situation with a view to signing Gyokeres. Juventus are 'trying to position themselves' for the Sporting forward, while Saudi clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Qadisiyah have reportedly lodged proposals. They are said to be offering Gyokeres a 'monstrous salary' of around £29.6m per year, which works out at over £570,000 per week, but the player is believed to prefer the idea of staying in Europe. He reportedly 'approves of a project the size of Arsenal', with the Gunners 'on the verge of putting numbers on the table'. Only time will tell if they end up winning the race for Gyokeres or if United will muscle ahead in the battle to snap him up. Gyokeres scored 39 league goals from just 31 starts in the season just gone, establishing himself as one of Europe's most prolific forwards. Source link Posted: 2025-06-11 22:51:49 |
