Alan Titchmarsh creates 'perfect' garden using only three plants![]() When it comes to perfecting your garden, one person you'll probably want to take advice from is Alan Titchmarsh CBE. The gardener, broadcaster and writer is famed for sharing handy gardening tips, and he recently showed off his own outdoor creation. Fans were left delighted as he revealed how he created his "favourite" border using only three plants, and people think it looks "perfect". As summer heats up, it's fair to say many of us want our gardens to look lovely, and Alan's appears to be an image of beauty based on the recent images he shared on Instagram this week. Alongside a snap of the stunning outdoor space, he wrote: "A favourite border combination - just three plants: blue catmint (nepeta), magenta Geranium ’Patricia’ and lady’s mantle (Alchemilla mollis). FAB." It's fair to say the garden looks amazing with shades of green and purple. As well as this, the space is immaculate - after all, it's no surprise that he keeps the area in good condition. Fans were quick to comment and tell the gardening expert how great it looks. They were blown away by how little effort he appeared to put in to transform the space. One wrote: "Wow! Extremely beautiful Alan - I often say the real skill is knowing when to stop!" Another added: "What a lovely combination…..we have all those plants, but not necessarily in that order! Shades of Morecambe and Wise….I am playing all the right notes." A third replied: "Just three plants and looks fab! I definitely over-complicate trying to plant up borders!" Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Beauty in simplicity." Someone else also chimed in with: "Beautiful. Will definitely try this combination. Thanks for all your advice and knowledge." One more added: "I've always loved the impact of those huge pots and the planting in and around them." Others also dubbed the garden as "gorgeous" and "perfect", as they admired Alan's handy work. Naturally, it obviously takes skill and knowledge to get to his level of gardening. None the less, it shows how little you actually need to make your outdoor space look beautiful. What plants did Alan use?Alan used blue catmint (nepeta), which is a low-maintenance plant known for its pretty blue flowers and aromatic leaves. It's really popular with gardeners due to its easy care and long flowering season. The leaves are normally greyish-green, and the flowers offer different shades of blue, occasionally with purple calyces. Meanwhile, geranium "Patricia" is a cultivar, or named variety of the hardy plant, which is known for its vibrant magenta-pink flowers with a darker eye. The plant is long-flowering, and its blooms can last from early summer to late autumn. The plant is actually a mound-forming perennial with deeply cut, deep green foliage that often turns red during the autumn months. Alchemilla mollis, also known as the garden lady's-mantle or lady's-mantle, is a species of flowering plant that forms a part of the Rosaceae family. It's native to Southern Europe, but is grown around the world as an ornamental garden plant. These are the three plants he used to create his stunning border. It looks like they can go a long way in aiding a beautiful garden. Source link Posted: 2025-06-11 08:48:46 |
