Lambourn ridden by Wayne Lordan won the 2025 Epsom Derby on Saturday afternoon, with Lazy Griff finishing second. It was Lordan's ninth Derby ride, with the Irish jockey dubbing it one of the "greatest" moments of his career. 

Lordan, riding the Aidan O'Brien horse, stepped on the gas early doors and had no concerns about the horse's stamina. Tennessee Stud, New Ground and Stanhope Gardens made up the rest of the top five, with pre-race favourite Delacroix placing down in ninth. 

Ruling Court was withdrawn on Saturday morning due to the going, with jockey William Buick - who was booked to ride - making it no secret that plenty of water had got into the ground over the past 48 hours.

Reacting to the win, Lordan told ITV Racing: "He's a very straightforward horse, I got a chance to get him up and into his stride... what he does is save everything in reserve, his two ears were pricked and I knew I had to go again here.

"I felt I was going even, felt I wasn't going too quick. I was just keeping the pressure on and keeping the momentum going." 

On an injury he picked up in 2023: "I didn't know [if I'd have to retire], it took my eight months to get back. That's how long the recovery took me. I had lots of tests. The doctor said 'you can take another fall', and that's what I was asking for because if he'd said I couldn't, that would've been it." 

O'Brien added: “Wayne has been a great fella for us over the years and gave him a great ride. We knew the horse would stay and we wanted him up the front from the start. It’s a privilege to be dealing with all my team.

“This horse has been uncomplicated and won well at Chester where Ryan [Moore] loved him. He will be an Irish Derby horse now I think. Ryan said his chance on [the favourite] Delacroix was affected near the start when he got knocked back badly.”

Lambourn was well-backed heading into the race and began proceedings at 13/2 with some bookies.
