Baked beans recipe will be ‘a huge hit with the family’ with surprising ingredient![]() A recipe for baked beans includes a surprising ingredient you might never think of using. The classic breakfast staple is a go-to for many Britons, and is often paired with just a bit of butter and some toast. But one foodie has shared an unexpected way to incoroporate them into a more elaborate dish, using a drink many of us consume daily. Just a Pinch allows members of the public to submit their recipes online, with some tried out by the website's Test Kitchen and rewarded with "Blue Ribbons" when they're dubbed outstanding. One such recipe was one by Suzanne Gerety that includes an ingenious way to avoid waste. Her baked beans recipe begins by browning some bacon in a pan, before taking it out and letting the rashers drain on paper towels - and being sure not to pour away the bacon greese. She then uses the same pan, with the grease still in it, to cook up chopped onions. After that Suzanne takes it off the heat and adds the beans and other ingredients, including barbecue sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard as well as the surprising ingredient: a quarter cup of brewed coffee. The mixture is then put into a greased baking dish and cooked in the oven, where the rich combination of flavours combine. You can find the full recipe, which serves six to eight people, here. Meanwhile, food experts from Simply Recipes suggested trying out another ingredient you may not have had with baked beans before. Stephanie A Ganz says adding Worcestershire sauce is great for "building layers of flavor in savory dishes, especially beans". "My recipe for baked beans includes ketchup and brown sugar, both of which bring in a ton of sweetness, so to cut through that, I like to add a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce. "It adds depth thanks to the umami notes of anchovy and tamarind," she continues. You can find Stephanie's recipe in full here. Source link Posted: 2025-06-07 00:04:39 |
