Sir Jim Ratcliffe 'plotting major changes' at Man Utd as key man steps back | Football | Sport![]() Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly planning significant changes at INEOS which will impact Manchester United at boardroom level. The Red Devils have just finished their worst season in recent memory, which ended with heartbreak in the Europa League final. They were also consigned to a bottom-half finish in the Premier League and failed to secure European qualification. As the inquest continues, Ratcliffe is set to make some important tweaks in what is described by The Times as a 'major reshuffle'. The report states that Sir Dave Brailsford will leave his duties at Old Trafford and return to his director of sport role at INEOS. He has been leading United's football operations since Ratcliffe purchased a minority stake in the club last year. He also owns a stake in French club Nice, which will return to INEOS control having originally been placed in a trust to comply with UEFA ownership rules. The move has been made possible by the fact United will not be playing in Europe next season. Ratcliffe reportedly wants Brailsford to return to his former role so that he can oversee that transition. He is also expected to increase his involvement in cycling with the INEOS Grenadiers, supporting their existing management structure. Geraint Thomas, who became the first Welshman to win the Tour de France in 2018, will reportedly take up a senior leadership position as part of the reshuffle. Brailsford will play a role in helping Thomas make the transition from athlete to team management. It comes just weeks after INEOS kicked off another round of brutal cuts at United, with further job losses on the horizon. According to BBC Sport, around 200 employees could be made redundant between now and the start of next season. Some members of staff were not informed of their fate until after the Europa League final so that United's preparations would not be disrupted. Their sports science, medical and scouting departments are said to be among the affected areas. Around 250 employees were relieved of their duties in the first round of redundancies, which took place last year. Some club ambassadors, including legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, have also seen their roles removed. United's failure to qualify for Europe has reportedly left a £100m hole in their finances, but they are still pressing ahead with some expensive summer deals. Matheus Cunha is widely expected to join the Red Devils in a move worth upwards of £62.5m. Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo is also thought to be a target, with the Bees reportedly demanding over £60m in exchange for his signature. Source link Posted: 2025-06-04 21:02:47 |
