Lois Boisson reveals strange team detail after downing Mirra Andreeva at French Open | Tennis | Sport

Drink it in, Lois Boisson. The French wildcard has been on a tear at Roland Garros this fortnight, and her fairytale run will continue into the semi-final after she stunned No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva in straight sets. Ranked down at No. 361 in the world, Boisson is making her Grand Slam debut, and she's now through to the last four.

After taking out last year's semi-finalist Andreeva, the 22-year-old made a surprising revelation and admitted she had "six physios" in her box to help her prepare for matches. It's no surprise Boisson is taking drastic measures to protect her body, she was forced to skip the French Open 12 months ago when she tore her ACL a week before the tournament.

But she has returned with a bang after overcoming some "difficult moments". Just two days after she caused a massive upset against world No. 3 Jessica Pegula, Boisson stirred up another shock result by taking out last year's semi-finalist Andreeva, who became frustrated and hit a ball away while being outplayed by the wildcard.

Andreeva twice led by a break in the first set, but Boisson stormed back to take it in a tiebreak after 81 minutes.

Then, from 0-3 down in the second set, she won six games in a row and collapsed to the ground after sealing a 7-6(6) 6-3 victory to reach the semi-final as the 15,000-strong crowd went wild in an outpouring of support.

The world No. 361 is now set to skyrocket almost 300 places up the rankings and will face world No. 2 and 2022 runner-up Gauff tomorrow, with a spot in the final on the line.

“Well, I’m going to try and recover! Going to see the physios, there are six physios in my box, so I have plenty of choice. I’ll do my routine and I’ll be ready,” the wildcard said.

It may seem excessive but nobody can blame Boisson for being careful, as an ACL injury prevented her from taking a wildcard into Roland Garros last year.

She only returned to competition in February of this year. And she has now become the third woman to reach a singles semi-final at her first Grand Slam.

After reaching the last four, Boisson told the Court-Philippe Chatrier crowd: “It’s incredible. It was amazing to feel supported like this. There are no words to describe that feeling.

“I think that whatever the situation last year and difficult moments that we went through, it’s unbelievable to come from there but it’s thanks to my team who supported me. Thanks to all of us really.”

Now up to No. 61 in the live rankings, Boisson is also guaranteed to pocket £580k (€690k) for reaching the semis. And she will be hoping to make it a hattrick of upsets when she meets Gauff in the semi-final on Thursday.

If she can take out the second seed, the wildcard would be the first French woman to reach the final in 20 years, after Mary Pierce finished runner-up in 2005.

And if Boisson can lift the trophy as a wildcard ranked down at No. 361 in the world? Drinks will be on her.
