Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim bursts into fit of laughter as Amad asked if Garnacho is staying | Football | Sport

Ruben Amorim wasn’t able to contain his emotions when Manchester United ace Amad was quizzed on team-mate Alejandro Garnacho’s future. It comes ahead of the summer transfer window, with Garnacho having reportedly been told by Amorim to “find a new club”.

Garnacho spoke out after being named as a substitute during United’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur last week and wasn’t included in the matchday squad for the final Premier League match of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday. Despite the apparent standoff, Garnacho did travel with the United squad and played the second half of this week’s friendly defeat to ASEAN All Stars.

Unsurprisingly, Garnacho’s future was the talk of the press conferences, with Amorim and Amad quizzed on the Argentine winger. But when the former was asked about his team-mate, Amorim, who was sat next to Amad, burst into a fit of laughter.

Despite his manager’s hysterics, Amad continued to answer the question, saying: "Alejandro is a really good player and we need good players in the team. I know Garna really well, so I hope to have Garna next season. It is not really a big issue for the team. Everything is good now, I think."

Garnacho raised eyebrows when he, almost immediately after the full-time whistle in Bilbao, criticised Amorim’s team selection. He said: "Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don't know. The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards."

Fuel was added to the fire when his brother, Roberto, posted on Instagram: "Working as no-one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus.”

Garnacho has one more post-season obligation with United before he and his team-mates head off for their summer breaks. The 20-time English champions face Hong Kong in the final match of their Asian tour on Friday afternoon.

Given the noise surrounding his future, it could prove Garnacho’s final match in a United shirt. Garnacho joined United’s Academy set-up following a move from Atletico Madrid and made his debut for the first team in April 2022. He’s since gone on to feature over 140 times for United, lifting the FA Cup and League Cup during his stint with the club.
