Queen Camilla would have faced 'worst fear' on Canada trip | Royal | News

King Charles and Queen Camilla have made their first trip to Canada since His Majesty's Coronation in 2023, but as the historic two-day tour wraps up, there is one aspect of royal life that Queen Camilla is still embracing. The former butler, who worked for King Charles between 2004 and 2011, when he was the Prince of Wales, has revealed Queen Camilla is dealing with a common "fear" while travelling.

Grant Harrold, speaking on behalf of Slingo, said: "Camilla is definitely not a fan of flying. While she has to travel all over the world, flying was never her favourite mode of transport." He continued that he thinks "it's more the turbulence" rather than "the heights", but added: "But even though she has this fear, she deals with it when she does have to travel."

Despite occasionally flying via jet, and experiencing luxury, Mr Harrold has also revealed a downside to travel. He explained: "The downside of these jets, when I would be on them, is they were obviously small and very prone to turbulence."

Camilla joined her husband as they completed their two-day visit in a whirlwind of pomp and pageantry that included a welcome ceremony for the King and Queen at the airport, a street hockey puck drop and a ceremonial tree planting.

During the tour, Camilla wore a diamond maple leaf brooch that was given by King George VI to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, in 1939, ahead of their first royal tour to Canada. That same brooch was passed down to Queen Elizabeth II and has been loaned to other royals, including Catherine, Princess of Wales.

After travelling through Ottawa in a horse-drawn carriage on Tuesday, King Charles inspected the guard after receiving a royal salute and a guard of honour from the Royal Canadian Regiment.

On Tuesday, the King delivered the Speech of the Throne, which laid out the government's priorities and goals to parliament. A monarch has not delivered the throne speech in Canada since 1977, making this royal visit a rare occasion.

The King, who is Canada's head of state, said relationships with partners, including the US, were changing, and he stressed the sovereignty of both nations.

The speech opened with a wave of patriotism as a potential trade war with the US, Canada's largest economic partner, looms. The King spoke of the "pleasure and pride" of being in the country, as we witness Canadians coming together in a renewed sense of national pride, unity, and hope.
