How to make cabbage taste delicious with 2 simple ingredients

Cabbage is a vegetable comparable to Marmite: you either love it or hate it. This is due to its pungent smell, bland taste, and, if overcooked, soggy texture. However, all foods, especially unpopular veggies, can be delicious if cooked correctly; instead of just boiling cabbage, there are other easy cooking techniques to follow, which will bring out its best flavour.

We have found a recipe that will make you love the taste of cabbage and have you begging for seconds. A food expert at Downshiftology revealed that with two simple ingredients, you can transform this humble vegetable into a mouthwatering dish that’s rich, savoury, and full of flavour in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Sharing their reasoning for using Ghee, the food expert said: "Cooking with ghee is my go-to method. Unlike butter, which can burn easily when sautéed too long, or olive oil, which lacks that sweet, rich flavour, ghee offers the best of both worlds.

"Some like to mix butter and oil to raise the smoke point, but honestly, ghee does the job perfectly on its own—it’s stable at high heat and brings a delicious buttery taste."

Method

Start by heating ghee in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the onions and sauté them for about a minute, just until they soften.

Stir in the garlic and continue cooking until it becomes fragrant. Next, add the cabbage to the skillet. Cook it for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it softens and takes on a lovely caramelised colour.

Finally, season with salt and pepper to taste. Give everything a good toss to combine, and serve.

Enjoy sautéed cabbage as a side dish next to chicken, lamb chops or next to a classic shepherd's pie. Alternatively, you can enjoy it as a one-pan meal with shredded meat or as part of a savoury breakfast.
