Man Utd dressing room view on Ruben Amorim sack emerges after Europa League loss | Football | Sport

Manchester United star Luke Shaw has jumped to the defence of manager Ruben Amorim, insisting that the Portuguese boss is capable of turning things around at Old Trafford and that the dressing room want him to stay. The Red Devils’ season hit a new low on Thursday night when they appeared drained of ideas, motivation and any sort of threat in the Europa League final against Tottenham.

Spurs ended their 17-year trophy drought in Bilbao, with Brennan Johnson scoring the all-important goal in the first half before Ange Postecoglou’s side sat deeper and soaked up United’s pressure without truly looking in danger of conceding an equaliser.

Amorim has come under fire as a result for failing to spark any real improvement out of his United squad since joining the club earlier this season, with some suggesting that the ex-Sporting boss could be sacked.

However, Shaw has thrown his support behind the 40-year-old and insisted that the squad have full faith in their manager. He said: "I can say 100 per cent right now he's the right man. Results have not been good at all. I've been here for a long time now and been through different managers.

"Ruben, for me, I talk on my behalf and I can talk on behalf of all the players, he is 100 per cent the right manager to take us back to where this club should be.

"It's going to be a very difficult process, us as players, we've let a lot of people down, including Ruben. I will say it again, we've been nowhere near good enough the whole season."

Speaking after the match, Amorim bizarrely revealed that he would be willing to walk away from the Theatre of Dreams without any compensation if the higher powers at United decided he was no longer the right manager to spearhead their revival.

He said: "I have nothing to show to the fans, so in this moment it is a little bit of faith (that is required). Let's see (on the future). Like I said before, I am always open.

"If the board and fans feel that I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation, but I will not quit. I am really confident on my job and as you see I will not change nothing in the way I do things."
