Noel Gallagher describes 'biggest fight he had with Liam - not the one | Music | Entertainment

The Gallagher brothers are reuniting for the first time in 16 years, with Oasis set to return to the stage for their Live ’25 Tour this July. Announced just before the 30th anniversary of Definitely Maybe, the tour marks their first live shows since a notorious backstage fight in Paris in 2009 - the moment that finally split the band for good.

But if you think that was their biggest bust-up, think again.

That Paris row - reportedly sparked by Liam swinging a guitar like an axe and Noel smashing his own instrument in frustration - ended with Noel walking out, a statement hours later, and Oasis coming to an end. But as Noel himself has said, the “biggest fight” came years earlier, in a farmhouse in Wales, while recording their second album.

It was 1995, and Oasis were deep into the sessions for What’s The Story (Morning Glory) at Rockfield Studios. The band were isolated, drinking heavily, and spending every waking moment together.

“As I recall, Liam was going pretty fucking mad,” Noel said in the BBC documentary Oasis: Supersonic. “Somebody let a fire extinguisher off in the farmhouse. I think maybe one of my guitars got damaged, and I blamed him.”

The result was a full-on physical fight that ended with Noel grabbing bassist Guigsy’s cricket bat and, in his words, “smashing [Liam’s] head in.”

Liam's version was even more detailed: “The whole studio got smashed to pieces. Everything just got blitzed to bits. It was probably me not giving a fuck, and him trying to write fucking Bohemian Rhapsody, and me going, ‘Bollocks, let’s have it.’”

After the brawl, Noel jumped out of a window and escaped with Alan White, who had only just joined the band on drums. As they drove away, Liam attacked their car with a dustbin.

White, remarkably, stayed with Oasis until 2004 - but his first week now seems like it was an intense one.

The cricket bat, of course, later became part of the Oasis legend. It was auctioned off in 2011, reportedly still showing signs of damage.

Now, in 2025, the band is back, or at least, sharing a stage again. The Live ’25 Tour kicks off in Cardiff this summer and ends in São Paulo in November, taking the Gallagher brothers back into stadiums across Europe and South America.
