Nintendo Switch Online finally adds iconic fighting game from N64 | Gaming | Entertainment

Nintendo Switch Online members have been treated to an additional game in May. Indeed, if you subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier, then you can now start playing classic fighting game Killer Instinct Gold.

Developed by Rare, the N64 brawler originally launched all the way back in 1996 (1997 in Europe), before reappearing as part of the Rare Replay collection for Xbox One in 2015. It features the extensive combos the series is known for, as well as brutal finishing moves and colourful cast of characters.

With Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack making its debut back in 2021, it's nice to finally see such an iconic early N64 release make an appearance.

The news was announced by Nintendo on X, alongside a trailer showcasing the game's infamous combo system.

"Experience explosive hits and hundreds of thousands of killer combinations in Killer Instinct GOLD, available to play now on Nintendo Switch for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members!"

As Nintendo points out, the game is only playable to Nintendo fans who subscribe to the premium Expansion Pack tier of Switch Online.

As a reminder, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack costs £34.99 for an annual membership, or £59.99 as part of a Family membership.

As part of the subscription, members can play N64 titles like Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64 and Sin and Punishment on N64, as well as Zelda Ocarina of Time and Mario Tennis.

SEGA Mega Drive games are also playable with the Expansion Pack tier, alongside Game Boy Advance titles.

Mega Drive games include well known classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage 2 and Gunstar Heroes, as well as cult favourites such as Crusader of Centy (Soleil), Musha, Pulseman and Alisia Dragoon.

Then there are the Game Boy Advance releases, which include everything from Zelda: The Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion, to Kuru Kuru Kururin and the Japanese version of F-Zero Climax.

Nintendo Switch Online will also get an upgrade when the Switch 2 launches in June, as Gamecube titles join the service. At launch, fans can expect to play the likes of Wind Waker, F-Zero GX and Soulcalibur 2.
