Avocado can be made into 3 different dishes before it spoils — not guacamole

Though we all thought it was just a phase, another trend that would be forgotten about, Avocado reigns supreme as a popular fruit Brits enjoy, especially on toast. Packed with heart-healthy fat, protein, vitamins and minerals, avocados are a healthy and delicious addition to any meal, leading to people purchasing them in bulk.

But what happens when a bunch of your avocados ripen at once? Guacamole is usually the go-to choice, but it only has a shelf life of two to three days. Fortunately, a food creator on Instagram, who goes by the name of Sweety Craft, has shared three delicious recipes to make with ripe avocados before they spoil.

Avocado Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 1/2 large avocado
  • A handful of pistachios or almonds
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • Two tablespoons of honey
  • 50–70 ml of milk

Method

Add pistachios or almonds to a bowl with half a large avocado. Then, pour in the honey and squeeze in the lemon juice. For the next step, you pour in any plant-based milk of your choosing; she uses homemade coconut milk, and then blend it all together.

Fill your decanted avocado skins with the mixture and then place them in the freezer. The creator does not allocate the amount of time, but you should freeze the mixture until solid to get your creamy avocado ice cream.

Avocado Butter

Ingredients

  • One medium avocado
  • 50 g of butter
  • Two tablespoons of lemon juice
  • One tablespoon of dried garlic
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

Mix the medium avocado with soft butter in a bowl. Add black pepper, a pinch of salt, dried garlic and some lemon juice. Lemons are important as they keep the avocado green and prevent browning.

Blend the mixture until creamy. Chill briefly in the freezer (not until frozen), and then voila, your avocado butter is ready. Enjoy it on bagels, over potatoes, or with your favourite protein, like steak or fish.

Chocolate Avocado Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 large avocado
  • Honey to taste
  • Milk (no measurements)
  • Cocoa powder (no measurements)

Method

Place your avocado, honey, milk and cocoa powder in a blender. Though the creator doesn't specify the measurements, Tastefulventure recommends one and 1/2 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, two tablespoons of cocoa powder and one tablespoon of honey.

Blend until smooth, and your delicious smoothie will be ready.
