Heinz's new sauce announcement leaves shoppers all saying the same thing

Heinz has unveiled its latest culinary creation, a revamped version of a beloved classic sauce, sparking a unanimous reaction among shoppers. The food giant took to social media to introduce the 'Fish and Chips sauce', set to take the place of its tartare sauce, with Heinz dubbing it as 'tartare 2.0'.

"If tartare is the OG fish condiment, then think of Heinz Fish and Chips sauce as Tartare 2.0," the company proclaimed. "Blending gherkins, onions, and herbs, consider this your tasty gateway to next-level fish and chips and more." Heinz had previously offered a traditional tartare sauce before discontinuing it in 2022, leaving room for the new Fish and Chips sauce to step in.

Tartare sauce, typically a mix of mayonnaise, chopped gherkins, capers, and herbs like tarragon and dill, is a time-honoured accompaniment to Britain's favourite dish, Fish and Chips.

A glance at the ingredients list for the new Fish and Chips Sauce reveals striking similarities to its predecessor, featuring gherkins, dill, salt, parsley, and mustard as key components.

Priced at a recommended retail value of £3.39, the sauce can be found on the shelves of Tesco, reports Bristol Live.

According to Heinz's own research, a whopping 81% of Brits enjoy their fish and chips with a variety of sauces, with 66% opting for ketchup, 50% favouring mayonnaise, and 45% sticking to Tartare sauce.

Furthermore, the study revealed that 90% of individuals aged between 18 to 34 expressed enthusiasm for a 'brand new' sauce to pair with their fish.

Despite a buzz of interest, it seems not all customers are tickled pink by the latest product update.

Social media was alight with reactions as consumers flocked to Facebook to air their thoughts on the brand's big reveal. Many were quick to point out that they struggled to spot what set the new sauce apart from the original.

"It's Tartare Sauce for god sake," one shopper opined bluntly in the comments. While another commented: "Is this not just tarter sauce?"

One more simply stated: "So it's tartar sauce at an increased price," suggesting skepticism over the value of the upgrade.

Thiago Rapp, director of 'taste elevation' at Heinz, said: "At Heinz, we're always exploring bold and exciting flavours, inspired by the latest food trends and what people across the nation are really craving.

"And when it comes to British classics, nothing quite compares to fish and chips. It's a national treasure, whether enjoyed as a seaside staple, a proper chippy tea on a Friday, or a comforting midweek meal.

"We've created a sauce that pays homage to this beloved British dish, crafted to be the perfect companion for every fish-filled occasion."
