Luke Littler taunts Luke Humphries with cheeky jab before Premier League clash | Other | Sport

Luke Littler has aimed a light-hearted dig at rival Luke Humphries ahead of the pair’s Premier League Darts clash in Aberdeen this week. The world’s two best players both look certain to be at finals night in The O2 next month, with The Nuke leading the table on 36 points, nine clear of second-placed Humphries.

However, it’s not just darts where the two stars share a rivalry. Littler is a renowned fan of Manchester United, while Humphries is a lifelong supporter of Leeds. Cool Hand Luke was able to celebrate on the weekend as his side claimed the Championship title to go with their promotion back to the top flight.

Littler has now revealed that he’s already taunted Humphreys over their prospects for the 2025/25 season, saying: “He’s been chuffed to bits with them (Leeds) coming back up. I just said to him ‘you’re going back down next year mate, enjoy it while you can’.”

Relations between the two clubs have not been notably bitter over the years. However, when asked about his thoughts on United playing Leeds home and away next season, Littler quipped: “Easy six points.”

Littler, 18, has made no secret of his love for United. After winning his maiden world title at the Alexandra Palace in January, he paraded his trophy at Old Trafford. He’s also embraced being booed in Liverpool because of his allegiance and has repeatedly taunted fans of the Reds on social media.

Despite succeeding Humphries as world champion, though, it’s the 30-year-old who remains the world No.1. Littler has already admitted that overhauling his compatriot in 2025 is one of his main targets.

“Luke Humphries has a lot to defend,” he said. “So, maybe I could get to world No.1. This year, I’m not defending any prize money. We all know Luke has the capabilities to go and defend all that he won two years back. I’m hoping I can either stop him or that other players do.”

A tournament win for Littler in Aberdeen will see him shatter another record in the sport. Five points will take him to 41, one more than the previous marker set by Johnny Clayton.
