A man and a teenager have been arrested by police after they discovered a terrifying plan to bomb a Lady Gaga concert in Brazil. The duo were allegedly plotting to use Molotov cocktails and homemade bombs for the attack.

Police officers and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security managed to identify the bomb threat hours before the concert began, according to Brazilian news-based TV channel GloboNews.

It is believed the main focus for the terrorists was towards the LGBTQIA+ community, teenagers and children, and cops have already stated taking action against a gang who were spreading hate speech. Lady Gaga's fans are affectionately known as 'Little Monsters' and plan to weed out the culprits is being dubbed 'Operation Fake Monster'.

According to reports, police had been investigating individuals who were attempting to recruit members to carry out attacks using Molotov cocktails and improvised explosives.

So far, police have raided nine addresses across Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, connected to the terror plan. They were able to retrieve a number of suspicious electronic devices they believe could be evidence.

The man whom police believe is the leader of the terror group was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm. A teenager was also arrested for storing child abuse images.

Police have stated the terrorists operated on digital platforms, promoting the radicalisation of adolescents, the dissemination of hate crimes, self-harm, pedophilia and violent content as a form of belonging and challenge among young people.

The operation to take them down has been a group effort by civil police officers from the Child and Adolescent Victims Police Station (DCAV), the Cybercrime Repression Department (DRCI), the Special Resources Coordination Office (Core), the 19th Police Precinct (Tijuca), and the Cyber ​​Operations Laboratory (Ciberlab) of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP).

If the plan had come off, the fall out would have been unthinkable.

Fans had begun queuing early in the morning to gain access to the beach. The event required a huge security operation to be in place, with 5,000 police officers on duty and attendees having to pass through metal detectors. The authorities used drones and facial recognition cameras to help keep the event safe and secure.

City officials have confirmed that more than two million people attended the free Lady Gaga concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday evening. The huge concert was paid for by the city in an attempt to revitalise the economy. It's believed it could bring in around £75m.

The performance was part of the promotional tour for Lady Gaga's eighth album, Mayhem, whose songs include Abracadabra and Die With a Smile. She last performed in Brazil in 2012.
