As temperatures rise, you may have started to notice a few more ants running around. The pesky pests are normally more active during the summer months due to warmer weather, which allows them to reproduce and forage more effectively.

When it's hotter, they can be drawn inside your property as they look for food, water and shelter from the heat. However, it's fair to say many of us don't want ants in our homes.

If ants are getting into your house, experts say there are a few things you can do to try and deter them. In a TikTok video, Kill And Cure Pest Control said you need to start by looking at how they're gaining entry.

He said you need to make this check to try and stop them from coming in - they could be entering through cracks, under door frames or via windowsills. If they're under block paving, he advised people to lift it if they can and put some ant powder where the nest is and near where they're coming in.

Before you do anything else, he said you need to check where they're coming in. So, look around the property, and work out how they're finding their way inside.

Ants can nest in lots of places, even rotten wood, according to the expert. There are different types of ants, and he noted you may need professional advice to help deal with certain kinds.

He said they do a "nice trail", so it's easy to follow where they're coming from. This is the first step in trying to aid the problem, and preventing the issue from getting worse.

Lots of people commented after the video was shared, and some spoke of success stories. It seems people have tried all sorts of methods to get rid of ants.

One person said: "I have ants on a brick wall out my back, and they come under my door frame." Another wrote: "Thank you - it has worked. Even in the garden as well."

How do ants enter properties?

Normally, ants enter homes by gaining access to cracks in the foundations, gaps around windows and doors or by using utliity line openings. Little you may know, they only need a space as tiny as 1/64 of an inch to find a way inside.

Certain things can attract them like food sources such as crumbs, spills and even pet food. They can also look to shelter in warm, dry places during the cooler months.

If you want to keep them out, there are a few things you can do to try and deter them. Rid any nearby food sources and use natural deterrents to keep them away.

Seal any gaps or cracks around your property when you spot them to make it more difficult for them to get inside. It's also important to keep surfaces clean, store food properly and resolve any possible moisture issues.

You can use natural repellents like vinegar, peppermint oil or cinnamon to try and keep ants away. However, if you think the problem is getting out of hand, you may want to contact a pest control expert for advice.
