The UK's 'most miserable' town next to four of the 'richest' in the country | UK | News

A UK town named "the most miserable" in the country has left locals exasperated as they claim it is not "as bad as people say it is" and that other places are worse off. Slough was named as the most miserable place last year according to Rightmove's Happy Home Index. However, not everyone agrees - with one prominent TikToker defending the town, stating that he thinks London's Knightsbridge and Mayfair are in fact "the most depressed" places in the country.

TikToker @philc84 took to the social media app and discussed the town's title, which he said he was "baffled" by. Slough is located in the southeast of the country, which the video creator branded as "the land of dreams and prosperity." However, it was ranked last place in the study that saw 35,000 people surveyed about their hometowns. Despite the results, locals were quick to defend their neighbourhood.

Phil also highlighted that he was confused why the town was so miserable when it is close to some of the richest areas in the UK.

He said: "Within just a couple of miles here, in that direction is Gerrards Cross, in that direction is Beaconsfield, over there is Marlow, and just over there is Windsor. Now I won't bore you with the details of those four towns but they have a s**t load of cash, four of the richest towns in the whole country."

The TikTok video also revealed that Slough has become "a feeding frenzy" for international businesses. The town's shopping centre is owned by the Abu Dhabi Investment Fund, and cost a staggering £130 million. It is also home to Europe's biggest trading estate. Drawing a conclusion to why the town might be so "miserable" Phil said: "Maybe the misery here is the fact that despite the location, Slough is primarily a workplace and an investment opportunity."

However, he "guarantees" that "it is not the most miserable place in the country." Instead, he says that despite Knightsbridge and Mayfair residents having "supercars" and expensive properties, "they [the residents] never look happy, and you never hear any laughter."

The video gained over 54,000 likes and 976 comments with those who agreed with Slough's title and a few defending the town. One person commented: "I worked in Slough for six months. I geniuely left with depression." Another wrote: "I hate living in Slough man."

However, some were quick to support Slough. One said: "Slough disrespect will not be tolerated."

Another person said: "The majority of people living in Slough are not miserable."
