Mohamed Salah reveals demand he made to Arne Slot that sparked Liverpool title glory | Football | Sport

Mohamed Salah has revealed the request he made to Liverpool FC boss Arne Slot that helped fire the Reds to title glory. Salah has been instrumental for the Premier League champions as they secured their second title in five seasons.

It’s an achievement that takes them level with rivals Manchester United as the most successful team in English league history, while ending an at-times painful wait to celebrate a league title in front of fans. Their last triumph, which Salah was also a part of, came during the height of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.

There were no such obstacles this time around, as a packed-out Anfield roared Liverpool home against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon. Salah, who netted his 28th league goal of the campaign in the win, was front and centre of the celebrations following the full-time whistle in Merseyside.

It’s been a stellar campaign for Liverpool’s talisman, whose form was rewarded with a bumper contract extension earlier this month. When quizzed on his performances and the impact of new boss Slot, Salah revealed to Sky Sports that he had gone to the Dutchman with a specific request upon his arrival in Merseyside.

He explained: "I told him 'as long as you rest me defensively, I will provide offensively' - so I'm glad I did. It was the manager's idea of course, but he listens a lot."

It’s a sharp contrast to the feeling surrounding Salah this time last year, when he was being linked with a move away from Liverpool. The arrival of Slot appears to have reinvigorated the Egyptian, who has been paramount to their success.

Commenting on his triumphant first season in English football, Slot told LFC TV: “It feels great. I don’t think I want to say a lot. The only thing now is to send my appreciation to Jurgen Klopp. The way we arrived on the bus, everyone was thinking there is no way we were going to lose this game. Conceding first made it difficult, but they always find a way to win.

“Incredibly proud, but not only of the players. Everyone knows what effort they’ve put in over the last few years. Everyone standing here, you [the fans] should give them a wonderful applause as well. Let’s forget that it’s the second Mohamed Salah reveals demand he made to Arne Slot that sparked Liverpool title glory | Football | Sport in 35 years, it’s the second in five years.”

Liverpool will wrap up their league campaign with matches against Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton before finishing at home to Crystal Palace, when they’ll finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy.
