Daniel Farke's job as Leeds United manager is reportedly under threat, despite securing a Premier League return just days ago. Farke was appointed as Leeds boss following the club's relegation from the top flight in 2023, with the German losing the Championship play-off final during his first season in charge.

Under immense amounts of pressure to finish inside the automatic promotion spots this time around, Farke delivered promotion for Leeds with two matches of the season to play. They'd been involved in a titanic battle with fellow Championship outfits Burnley and Sheffield United, but the former's victory over the latter on Monday afternoon confirmed promotion back to the big time for Leeds.

It's reported by The Daily Mail that the Leeds hierarchy are considering a surprise sacking of the man who just earned the side promotion to the Premier League. The rationale behind the ownership group's stance surrounds Farke's sketchy record in keeping teams in the top tier after being promoted.

Farke is considered one of the best-ever Championship managers, having taken Norwich up twice prior to getting the gig at Elland Road. Norwich were relegated under his stewardship the first time around, before Farke became the only manager in Premier League history to lose 15 consecutive games during the Canaries' second stint - a run that straddled across two separate seasons.

The report did state that Leeds are unlikely to part company with Farke unless they've got a ready-made replacement lined up. One of the names said to be under consideration is former Manchester United and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, who is currently in charge of Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

Although, if Leeds go through with the sacking, there is said to be some desire to find a "lesser-known" manager who can come in and build a long-term project. The owners are said to have been impressed by the success Andoni Iraola has achieved at Bournemouth - a manager Leeds were prevented from approaching by his former club Rayo Vallecano before landing on Farke.

Commenting after Leeds' promotion to the Premier League was confirmed earlier this week, Farke said: "It's never easy, you don't have to lead the players, you have to lead the whole group. All of our supporters, it costs lots of energy. We've done it in the end, I'm proud of the lads. It's a very heavy shirt to wear and we have delivered a great side. It's fully deserved to be back in the Premier League where we belong."

He added: "Step by step after relegation, it was a tough job, you have to deal with all the hangover. All the comings and goings. [Last year] we played a really good season, then the heartbreaking final at Wembley. Then you have to rebuild again. We're working on a pretty tight restriction."

Leeds, who could still win the Championship title this term, return to action on Monday night for the visit of play-off hopefuls Bristol City. Farke's side sit level on points with fellow promoted outfit Burnley.
